After studying ballet as a child, Mullally transitioning to acting while in college. She spent some time in the Chicago theater scene, but eventually moved to Hollywood and snagged a leading role on the short-lived series The Ellen Burstyn Show in 1986. Over the next decade, the comic actress struggled to find work before upping her profile opposite Matthew Broderick in the 1995 Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. A succession of TV guest spots followed before she landed her signature, Emmy-winning role as a high-pitched princess on Will & Grace. Mullally proved so popular with audiences that once the sitcom ended in 2006, she launched her own eponymous talk show. Off-screen, she is married to character actor Nick Offerman and sings for the cover band Supreme Music Program.
