After working as a musician, singer, and bandleader in nightclubs and vaudeville and onstage, John "Fuzzy" Knight broke into films in 1928, at first appearing in musical shorts. He became a top comic supporting actor in 1932-33, then portrayed the stuttering bumpkin musical-sidekick of Western stars Johnny Mack Brown, Tex Ritter, Russell Hayden, and Bob Baker; ultimately he appeared in over 200 Westerns, and several times (lastly in 1946) he was on the list of Top Ten Western Box-Office Stars. He also costarred in the Three Mesquiteers series. He also occasionally played straight dramatic roles. He retired from the screen in 1953, but later appeared in two more films.
