Born Albert de Conti Cedassamare, Conti studied law in Graz, Austria. Via his friendship with director Erich von Stroheim he entered films, debuting on screen in a leading role in von Stroheim's Merry-Go-Round (1923). In numerous films of the '20s and '30s Conti tended to play continental aristocrats.
