- Did his B.Com and LLB from calcutta University.
- Joined the Allahabad bank as a banker before starting his film career.
- Joined Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) and worked with various producers of repute.
- Started his acting career with Bengali plays.
- First film role was in the classic comedy film, Gol Maal (1979).
- Has a son and a daughter who are twins.
- Starred in numerous television shows like Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, Na Bole Tum... Na Maine Kuch Kaha, and Samvidhaan.
- Was the vice-president of IPTA for many years.
- Remained a bank employee inspite of his acting career, a position from which he retired in 2001.
