Born Dayle Robertson. Rugged leading man of westerns, later a character lead. He worked as a prizefighter before breaking into films in the late 40s. For a decade he was a busy screen actor, then switched his focus to TV. He was a regular in the TV series Tales of Wells Fargo (1957-62) and The Iron Horse (1966-68), and he hosted the series Death Valley Days (1968-72); later he had prominent roles in TV movies, and appeared in guest roles on series. He was once married to actress Mary Murphy.
