- Mother is Singaporean-Chinese; father is British, but born and raised in Zambia.
- Studied at the Redroofs Theatre School and with the National Youth Theatre.
- In 2009, was cast in the lead role for the BBC drama Spirit Warriors, making her the first actress of East Asian descent to play a lead role in a British television series.
- Co-wrote and produced The Heart of the Forest, which was nominated for Best Short Movie at the Copenhagen Film Festival.
