- Was awarded a Lady Rothermere Drama Award and Leverhulme scholarship to study at the Drama Centre London.
- Studied with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and performed in both Macbeth and The Merchant of Venice in 2011, the latter opposite Patrick Stewart as Shylock.
- Starred in Blackta, a play about the difficulties facing black actors, at the Young Vic Theatre in London in 2012.
- Attended a boot camp with his Musketeers co-stars before production started to train on riding horses and fencing.
