Born Vincent Zoimo, this brooding, sincere, tough American leading man debuted on Broadway in 1947 with the musical High Button Shoes. He debuted onscreen in Mr. Universe (1951) and gradually moved up to lead roles, meanwhile appearing in many TV dramas. Edwards starred in the TV series Ben Casey, which greatly boosted his screen career. He also sang in nightclubs. He appeared in few films after 1970.
