- Grew up in a family with strong ties to the film industry, his childhood friends were Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra.
- Began his career in film as assistant director on Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Dil To Pagal Hai.
- Made his directorial debut with the comedy Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana (2012).
- Initally planned to make Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana in Punjabi, but eventually decided it would also work well in Hindi, and thereby reach a larger audience too.
- Had to be encouraged by Anurag Kashyap to direct his own film.
