His directorial career includes two memorable comedies for Disney, Pollyanna (1960) and The Parent Trap (1961), in which Swift expertly guided the talents of Hayley Mills; two rather forced, glossy films (Love is a Ball and The Interns),and then a rewarding partnership with Jack Lemmon in Under the Yum Yum Tree and Good Neighbor Sam. Swift began as a cartoonist for Disney and later became a comedy writer for radio and television, He worked on Mr. Peepers in the '50s--the comic triumph of the meek seems to be a recurring theme in his work. Swift has also scripted several comedies, including Pollyanna and Foolin' Around (1980).
