- Set up a flower stall in her local neighbourhood at the age of seven.
- Led pony rides along Maidenhead seafront when she was eight years old.
- Worked as a sales-room model in a fashion house on leaving college.
- Started her own business at nineteen when she started importing and selling glass and ceramics from Italy.
- Joined her family's holiday businessin 1988 and led a management buyout in 1999.
- Joined the team on Dragons' Den in 2006 and, so far, has agreed investments in 63 businesses to the value of more than £3.3million.
- Awarded honorary degrees from Exeter University Business School and Staffordshire University, both in July 2010.
- Acted as a Sustainability Ambassador for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.
- Is an Ambassador for wildlife charity World Wildlife Fund (WWF), poverty charity Lend with Care and the Roundhouse Theatre.
- Is a patron of the animal protection charity Tusk.
- Took part in the eleventh series of Strictly Come Dancing in September 2013, partnered with Robin Windsor, but was eliminated on October 26.
