- Was born in Ludhiana (Punjab) but moved to Mumbai (Maharastra) when he was only 40 days old.
- Wanted to become a wrestler since childhood.
- Hailing from an orthodox Sikh family, had to convince his family and shave his beard and shorten his hair to get into acting.
- Got his first role in Noorie (1979) that fetched his first salary of 500 Indian rupees which he gave away to his mother.
- Has performed in Hindi, English, Punjabi, Marathi and many other language plays all over India and abroad.
- Is the brother of assistant director Kuljinder Singh Gill aka Pinky Gill who passed away from accident on the sets of Mera Naam Tera Naam ( Wah Tera Kya Kehna).
