From the Broadway stage, where he had appeared in such plays as Congai (1928), The Great Man (1931), and Winterset (1935), swarthy-looking, gravel-voiced Ted Hecht usually played nefarious "foreign" types on screen: Major Yohagi in Dragon Seed (1944), Prince Ozira in Tarzan and the Huntress (1948), and Lieutenant Sarac in Istanbul (1957). He was equally busy on television, appearing on such popular programs as Adventures of Superman, The Abbott and Costello Show, and Rocky Jones, Space Ranger.
