A very popular leading man of the silent era whose career dwindled from the '30s on, Hamilton hit it big again on TV as Commissioner Gordon on Batman (1966-68). His important silent films include The White Rose (1923), Isn't Life Wonderful? (1924), Beau Geste (1926); he also appeared in early sound pictures like The Sin of Madelon Claudet (1932), Tarzan the Ape Man (1932), and What Price Hollywood? (1932).
