- As a child he shared a room with his parents and siblings in a large house that housed 6 other families.
- Volunteered for the Navy the age of fifteen but was dishonourably discharged a few years later for threatening to throw an officer off a boat landing jetty in Scotland.
- His first business started in Stockton-on-Tees in the North East and began after buying an ice cream van for £450 - selling the business a few years later for £28,000.
- Started The Bannatyne Charitble Trust in 2007 in an effort to focus his charitable activities.
- Awarded an honourary Doctorate of Business Administration degree from the University of Teesside in 2009.
- Supports a plethora of charities including Unicef, Operation Smile, Sport Relief, Comic Relief, Mary's Meals and many more.
- Is a patron of PC David Rathband's Blue Lamp Foundation.
