- Had to leave boxing after he was knocked out cold by an opponent in a bout while in college.
- Turned to dramatics and joined Indian People's Theatre Association; did many plays, performing throughout the country.
- Made his Bollywood debut with a role in the film Khatron Ke Khiladi (1988).
- Was approached to play the lead role in Darr (1993), which was played by Shah Rukh Khan after he declined. The movie was a huge success.
- Started his own production company Shree 20th July Entertainment in 2011.
- Has played a role in both the 1988 and the 2013 versions of Mahabharata aired on television, playing King Vichitravirya in the first one and King Drupad in the latter.
