A fast-tapping musical star whose lively presence freshened many comedies and musicals, she was discovered by Lucille Ball. A very young Miller can be seen in early RKO pictures, often with Ball: New Faces of 1937 (1937), Stage Door (1937), Room Service (1938), You Can't Take it with You (1938), Having Wonderful Time (1938), Too Many Girls (1940). After making a few obscure musicals in the mid '40s, she was put under contract with the Freed Unit at MGM, which lead to her greatest successes: as Fred Astaire's self-centered ex-partner in Easter Parade (1948), the analytical anthropologist in On the Town (1949), and the man-hungry Bianca -- watch for those 3D dances! -- in Kiss Me, Kate! (1953), as well as appearances in Lovely to Look At (1952), and Hit the Deck (1955). She appeared with Mickey Rooney in the long-running Broadway burlesque of burlesque Sugar Babies.
