Hall was born Charles Hall Locher. A handsome lead actor with a wide flashing smile and brawny physique, he debuted onscreen in 1935, billed as "Charles Locher" and then "Lloyd Crane." He changed his name to "Jon Hall" when he got his first big role, opposite Dorothy Lamour in The Hurricane (1937). He played "beefcake" and "loincloth"-type roles, achieving his greatest popularity when paired romantically with Maria Montez in '40s technicolor "sex and sand" epics. Gradually he descended into roles in B-adventure movies. He was best known as the star of the '50s TV series Ramar of the Jungle. Later he became a director, producer, and successful businessman. His first wife was singer Frances Langford; his second, actress Raquel Torres.
