This animated version of Bram Stoker's Dracula comes to us by way of Northstar Productions. The basic storyline is adhered to with commendable fidelity: Dracula's journey to England, his "enslavement" of such female victims as Mina Harker and Lucy Westenra, the arrival of vampire-hunting Professor Van Helsing, and Dracula's ultimate Waterloo by way of a wooden stake. The gorier elements of the story are downpedaled, while the character design tries to avoid the purely grotesque. The scripters do a nice job distilling Stoker's rambling, seemingly endless novel into 90 minutes. The animation tends towards the herky-jerky technique of TV's "cartoons by the yard", but at least the background design is attractive.
