Synopsis

Reporter Bill Bradford (George Brent) goes undercover in an effort to expose racketeer Alexander Carston (Ricardo Cortez). He is made a special agent by the government in an attempt to infiltrate Carston's gang and gain access to accounting records and prove tax evasion. Bradford gets to know Carston's accountant, Julie Gardner (Bette Davis). He attempts to get her to testify against her boss, and they fall in love. But when Carston gets wind of the plan, her life is placed in danger.
