There is a bit of romance in this Hong Kong detective thriller. Mickey Lau (Chow Yun-fat) is a policeman out hunting a band of arms dealers, and in the process one of the dealers' salespeople, a woman, gets killed. Lau goes out to the New Territories (a portion of mainland China permitted to be used by Hong Kong) to notify the woman's daughter and her sister Cher (the girl's aunt) of the death. In that relatively rural setting, he comes to admire and finally to love the woman's sister (Cherie Chung). In the meantime, there's plenty of action when he finally pins down the bad guys.
