Annie (Joanna Shimkus) is a young girl on the verge of womanhood who goes to visit her dying Aunt Zita (Katina Paxinou). She takes a break from her bedside vigil to take a walk, where she meets a young shepherd, converses with some economically deprived Spaniards and is questioned by the police. She also finds time for her first love affair, listens to some political discussion, and runs across some violent hippies who attempt to do her great bodily harm. The contrasts of life and death are illustrated in this somber but never morbid film. After an evening of eye opening adventures, Annie returns to the bedside of her beloved Aunt Zita in this pleasant drama.
