Synopsis

Successful attorney Bill Maitland (Nicol Williamson) seems to have everything. His law practice is prosperous, his family is healthy, but, unfortunately, he revels in being a loutish boor who is adulterous, petty, and vain. He impregnates his secretary who becomes infuriated and leaves her position. Junior partners in his law firm are reluctant to ally with him, and he justifies his behavior by convincing himself and constantly telling others he is unable and unwilling to change. When his wife discovers his infidelity, he is incredulous and berates her for discovering his indiscretions. His character garners no sympathy, as his world falls apart around him in this dramatic play by John Osborne.
