Writer-director Han Jae-rim follows up his critically acclaimed box office hit debut, Rules of Dating, with the darkly humorous gangster drama, The Show Must Go On. Korean superstar Song Kang-ho (The Host) stars as Kang In-gu, a midlevel gangster suffering through a midlife crisis. In-gu is good at his job, and it looks like it's about to pay off with a major shady real estate deal. His boss loves him, but the boss's inept, scheming younger brother, Sung-jin (Yun Je-mun) resents their bond, and is determined to take his "rightful place" at his brother's side. In-gu's good friend Hyun-su (Oh Dal-su) belongs to a rival gang, and alternates between goading In-gu to switch sides, and threatening to have him killed. In-gu's home life is no less worrisome, as his wife Mi-ryung (Park Ji-yeong) is growing tired of In-gu's dangerous and unstable lifestyle, while his rebellious daughter (Kim So-eun) is embarrassed by her father's grotesque lack of tact and his gruff manner. The pressures build to an unbearable level for In-gu, whose final decision about his future is difficult to make and even harder to carry out. The Show Must Go On had its North American debut at Subway Cinema's 2007 New York Asian Film Festival, with director Han in attendance.
