An effective war drama by first-time director Edwin Zbonek, Am Galgen Haengt die Liebe is based on an acclaimed play by Leopold Ahlsen and is set in Greece at the end of World War II. Nikolaos (Carl Wery) and Marulja (Annie Rosar) are a couple in their declining years who are moved by compassion to help out two German soldiers, one gravely wounded. The couple are taking a great risk themselves in order to save the lives of these two men, their enemies during the war. And the longer the men stay under their roof, the greater the danger of discovery.
