Synopsis

Filmmaker Tony Palmer teams with screenwriters John Osborne and Charles Wood to explore the mysterious life and career of revered English composer Henry Purcell in a film that finds a group of 1960s-era actors traveling back into late 17th century England. Composer John Eliot Gardiner conducts the soundtrack for a detailed look at the life of a composer whose spectacular talent was only exceeded by his enigmatic nature.
