Two women in show business are fighting for the same man both before the cameras and behind the scenes in this comedy from Finland. Ilona (Pamela Tola) is an out of work actress who goes to a television studio looking for work. Ilona ends up in the wrong job interview, but good fortune is in her favor as she ends up on the writing staff of a popular soap opera. Ilona quickly falls for Kalle (Mikko Leppilampi), an actor who plays the show's male lead, dashing fireman Antero. Eager to impress Kalle, Ilona begins writing juicy scenes for him with a character who bears no small resemblance to her. However, Raakel (Outi Maenpaa), the show's producer, is also infatuated with Kalle and soon figures out what Ilona is trying to do; determined to win Kalle away from her new rival, Raakel begins rewriting Ilona's work so that the handsome fireman begin spending more time with another of the show's leading ladies. While the on-screen battle over Antero's affections boosts the show's ratings and pleases fans, the behind-the-scenes squabbling between Ilona and Raakel starts to get ugly, with poor Kalle stuck in the middle as the women start losing sight of the line between reality and fiction. Saippuaprinssi (aka Prince of Soap) received its American debut at the 2007 Cinequest San Jose Film Festival.
