Synopsis

The arrival of a progressive headmistress shakes up an all-girls' school in 1930's Britain, in this production which originally aired as a miniseries on BBC. Sarah Burton (Anna Maxwell Martin) brings a fresh outlook and new concepts to a traditionally conservative setting, befriending an amiable faculty member (David Morrissey) in the process, but she comes across a landlord who represents the stodgy culture that Burton looks to rebel against.
