Synopsis
The story takes place during the imperial era in a Rhineland city. The regional ruler has just railed against freedom of speech. At the regulars' table in the tavern, where the public prosecutor is also sitting, the citizens express their outrage while consuming copious amounts of wine. The next morning, the prince's statue is found wearing a muzzle.
