Synopsis

In this European drama, a Soviet silent screen actress sacrifices everything to care for her illegitimate son. After leaving films, she joins a traveling troupe that ends in Krakou where she pretends to be a famed Parisian designer. When the truth is revealed, she heads for Nice to work odd-jobs. Her son grows up and is serving in the French Air force during WW II where he becomes a hero decorated by Charles de Gaulle. In turn, he desires to give his medal to his beloved mother and so returns to Nice only to discover that she has been dead for two years. Devoted to the very last, she had written him 250 letters before she died so that he would have a steady supply of letters and be comforted.
