- Grew up in Sydney's beachside suburb of Cronulla, where his pastimes consisted of swimming, surfing, cycling, golf and rugby.
- Travelled to the United Kingdom in 2002 to star in a production of the musical Godspell in which he alternated the lead roles of Jesus and Judas with English entertainer Jonathan Wilkes on a nightly basis.
- While shooting City Homicide and Dancing With the Stars, competed in two Ironman Triathalons, China and Hawaii, in 2009.
