Bio

The son of actors Shirley Douglas and Donald Sutherland, Kiefer became a Hollywood heartthrob in the 1980s with flashy roles in a number of hip flicks such as The Lost Boys, Young Guns and Flatliners, during the latter of which he struck up a very public romance with costar Julia Roberts. After taking a brief hiatus from acting (which he used to compete in a number of rodeo events), Sutherland returned to the biz with a number of strong performances in films such as Dark City and Picking Up the Pieces, but he eventually found his most-successful role as Jack Bauer on 24, a taut action series about a counterterrorism agent who deals with dangerous threats to American security (and, suspiciously, always over the course of a single day). In 2006, he won two Emmys for his work on the show: one for Outstanding Lead Actor and one as producer of the Outstanding Drama Series. Off screen, Sutherland owns a ranch in Montana, and he named his production company Still Water Films after a river on his property.
