Joined the AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) professional circuit in 1996; awarded AMA Rookie of the Year despite competing only in the final event of the season.
Tallied 150 combined motocross and supercross wins and 16 AMA championships during his career.
Recorded the AMA National Series' first ever perfect season in 2002, placing first in every race of that year's schedule, going 24 for 24. He repeated this feat in 2004.
Three-time winner as part of the U.S. Motocross des Nations team.
Earned several nicknames during his competitive years, including Angry Little Elf, the Flying Freckle and G.O.A.T. (short for "Greatest of All Time").
