  • Post-graduated with Diploma in theatre and earned a Gold Medal from the drama Department of Punjab University, Chandigarh, India, in 1981.
  • Worked as a theatre artiste from 1978 to 1987 and acted in numerous plays in Delhi, Chandigarh and Mumbai besides teaching acting at various institutions.
  • Began his television acting career in 1982 with roles in serials produced at Jalandhar Doordarshan, Delhi and in Mumbai.
  • Made his debut in film in 1988 with a role in the film Aakhri Adalat.
  • Divorced Mita Vasisht, Indian television, film and theatre actress, and later married renowned painter Ritu Dhillon on April 26, 1994.
  • Founded the production company called M.D. & Company, and produced the first ever historical dock-drama film Khalsa (1999) based on the actual Khalsa history.
