Ten finalists put their design skills to the ultimate test in the eighth season of this popular competition, which is now titled "HGTV Star." Another change to the series occurs at the judging table, where Sabrina Soto joins holdovers Vern Yip and Genevieve Gorder to evaluate the challengers' work that includes transformations in real homes and at college campuses and exotic locations. One person is eliminated per episode until an "HGTV Star" is found, who wins his or her own show on the network. The finalists not only must demonstrate creativity and originality, but they are also given on-camera skills tests in each challenge, including during an appearance on the CBS daytime series "The Talk." David Bromstad returns as host and mentor.
