Synopsis

Just before a big boxing match, Socks Barbarrosa (Ralph Meeker) decides not to fight. After bidding goodbye to girlfriend Angela Evans (Leslie Caron), he enlists in the military, ending up in the thick of the Korean War. When he gets back, he's celebrated as a local icon, but Angela's father, a blind man known as "The Judge" (Kurt Kasznar), is still angry that he wouldn't box. Undaunted, Socks arranges for surgery that might fix The Judge's vision, as his ring forfeit is finally explained.
