Synopsis

A love of specialty furniture inspired Ellen DeGeneres to co-produce this competition series for HGTV. While promoting the partnership, she talked about the time she found a beautiful, one-of-a-kind armoire "that spoke to me in a way I'd never experienced. It turned out there was a drifter living inside of it." Jokes aside, six furniture makers face serious challenges to conceptualize and build extraordinary-yet-functional pieces in limited time frames. Each contestant is paired with an expert carpenter/general contractor, including HGTV hosts Matt Muenster, Chip Wade and Jeff Devlin, and has access to a large workshop to help complete tasks and wow judges Amanda Dameron, editor in chief of Dwell magazine, and Christiane Lemieux, executive creative director of e-commerce company Wayfair. Ellen drops by for some witty weigh-ins, too. The last competitor standing receives $100,000 and a feature in HGTV Magazine. Actor/comic Jay Montepare hosts.
