In Season 2, Benson has settled into his duties as part of the governor's household staff. But life doesn't always go smoothly; for example, he and Gretchen are held hostage during a market robbery in the season opener. When Benson finds a treasure map, the staff gets gold fever in the episode titled "Fool's Gold," which marked Jerry Seinfeld's first guest appearance on the show. A group of revolutionaries tries to steal a statue from the governor's mansion; the governor's pilot falls ill in-flight, forcing Benson to try to fly the plane; and Benson is in charge when Marcy marries Dan (guest star Ted Danson). Beah Richards makes a guest appearance as Benson's mother.
