"Food Network Star" gets a new twist as it enters its eighth season. Network superstars Bobby Flay, Giada De Laurentiis and Alton Brown serve as mentors to the 15 contestants throughout the season, with each celebrity chef choosing five members for his or her team. From there, the format is familiar to regular viewers as the contestants do battle in challenges to see who has both the personality and kitchen chops to win the competition. This season's challenges include a "Chopped"-style battle and a food makeover challenge. Food Network executives Bob Tuschman and Susie Fogelson return to the judges' table to decide who goes home each week, joined by a roster of guest judges. In the end, though, viewers decide the winner for the first time since season three (when the show was called "The Next Food Network Star"). The winner, of course, gets a (potentially starmaking) Food Network series to be produced by his or her mentor, who gets bragging rights over the other coaches.
